Whiteside County Clerk, Dana Nelson, wishes to remind disabled and elderly voters of the many aids and provisions for assistance in voting at the upcoming election. Nelson said that her office welcomes inquiries by anyone who feels they may wish to take advantage of these aids at the February 2, 2009 General Primary Election.

Voting
You must be registered at your current address in order to vote. Polls on all election days are open from, 6 a.m. to 7p.m.

Your precinct name and number is shown on your voter registration card. You will vote at the same location for every election. If you need assistance in determining your polling place, call your Election Authority

EARLY VOTING SCHEDULE
Early Voting will be conducted at the Office of the Whiteside County Clerk at the Courthouse at 200 E. Knox Street in Morrison, beginning on Monday, March 16, 2009 through Thursday, April 2, 2009 from 8:30 A.M. to 4:30 P.M., Monday through Friday.  The hours for voting on Saturday, March 21st and 28th will be from 9 A.M. to noon.

There will also be early voting on a limited basis available in Sterling for all Whiteside County Precincts, at the Eastern Branch Court Facility at 101 E. 3rd St., Sterling.  The dates and times for voting in Sterling are:  March 25, 26 and 27 from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Any voter validly registered in Whiteside County may vote during the early voting period after showing proper identification, however, any vote cast is final, and may not be revoked, and the voter is not eligible to cast a vote on election day.

Absentee voting will be offered during regular office hours between 8:30 A.M. and 4:30 P.M, Monday through Friday.  In-person absentee voting will also be offered on Saturday, April 4, 2009 from 9:00 A.M. to noon.  The last day to vote in-person absentee is Monday, April 6, 2009.

A registered voter may also vote an absentee ballot by mail. Mail applications for absentee ballot must be received by the election authority no later than Thursday, April 2, 2009.

To qualify for an absentee ballot a person must be a registered voter who is unable to vote in-person at his/her polling place on election day for one of the following reasons:

  • expect to be absent from the county on election day
  • be appointed to serve as an election judge in the precinct outside of their home precinct
  • be physically incapacitated
  • be observing a religious holiday
  • be acting in an official capacity as an election official

In addition, members of the armed forces and their families, nursing home residents and permanently physically incapacitated persons may qualify to vote absentee.
